If you are experiencing heavy menstrual periods that are keeping you away from enjoying your life to the fullest, you should know about the 90-second treatment called Endometrial Ablation. Endometrial Ablation is a minimal invasive option that is safe and simple. This procedure has been proven to help control heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) without any need of hormones or a hysterectomy.

About the procedure

The procedure can be performed in an office visit or outpatient setting, and generally takes less than 5 minutes. In addition the procedure can be performed under general anesthesia and does not require a hospital stay. Recovery is fast and most women can usually return to their normal activities by the next day.

After the procedure, most women experience moderate cramping, which can be managed with over the counter pain relievers. You might also see vaginal bleeding or light spotting, changing to a pinkish watery discharge that may last for several weeks. The discharge is a normal part of the healing process.

The first-operative check-up usually occurs within two weeks after the
procedure, and sexual activity can resume after the check up visit. Your first few weeks after the procedure may continue to be heavy, with improvement thereafter.

Does it work?

Ninety-three percent of the patients treated are still happy with their results after five years of the treatment and 99% will recommend the procedure to a friend or a relative.

Am I a candidate for this procedure?

Premenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding who have completed childbearing may be candidates for the procedure. Your physician will conduct a clinical assessment including diagnostic testing to rule out other abnormal uterine conditions, and your pap test and biopsy must be normal.
