Urinary incontinence is often an embarrassing problem that can affect anyone. It is a loss of control over the bladder. The severity of urinary incontinence varies from one person to another. What Is Urinary Incontinence?

Keep in mind that urinary incontinence is not a disease but it is a symptom. It can be caused by various medical conditions, physical problems or even everyday habits (Learn also: Urinary Tract Infections). It ranges from occasional leakage when you sneeze, laugh or cough to having an urge to urinate that is so strong and sudden that you are not able to get to toilet in time.

Urinary Incontinence Treatment and Management

However, some of the things that you can do in your daily life and which will help you stop or improve the leakage include:

Daily pelvic floor exercises – first of all, it is very important to do the exercises correctly and do them daily. The pelvic floor muscles should be squeezed 10-15 times in a row, for a few seconds. It will take some time until you see some results. Usually at least 3 months of daily exercise are necessary, until an improvement of the urinary incontinence treatment is noticed.

Avoid lifting heavy things – heavy lifting putts more strain on the pelvic floor muscles. It is very important to avoid lifting not only for urinary incontinence treatment but also for your back. When, lifting can’t be avoided, lift properly with your legs and not with your back. Also, seek help when you need to lift heavy things do not lift them on your own.

Daily Habits Can Be a Reason for Urinary Incontinence

Quit smoking – yes, smoking also interferes with urinary incontinence. When you smoke, you also cough, putting more strain on the pelvic floor muscles. Lose weight – if you are overweight your muscles of the pelvic floor may also weaken and cause incontinence or make it worse. The signs and symptoms of urinary incontinence treatment will improve when you reduce your weight.

Deal with constipation – normal bowel movements, are very important for overall health, with or without having problems with urinary incontinence. However, in cases when you do delay the urge of empting your bowels, you also weaken your muscles of the pelvic floor.

Cut down on alcohol drinks – it is well known that alcohol is a diuretic, so it will make you urinate more. Cutting down on alcohol drinks will help you control the urinary incontinence treatment. Cut down on caffeine – it is well known that caffeine irritates the bladder, making the condition worse.

Drink Water Daily for Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Drink plenty of water daily – usually women suffering from urinary incontinence avoid drinking fluids during the day. However, it is something wrong as not drinking fluids will make the condition worse. It will reduce the bladder’s capacity. Some diseases anyway do require to control, the intake of the water, but your doctor will tell you if and when you should reduce the water intake. In the meantime, continue drinking water as much as you can during the day for urinary incontinence treatment.
